hard news redux

With the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, it is more now than ever vital that we are filling our blood banks. American Red Cross and DSU Student Government hosted a blood drive in the Gardner Center Ballroom. Sadly, I was unable to participate due to a new tattoo, but from what the hosts said, it had been successful so far.

context
physical: this blood drive was held close to home on DSU campus. this made it easy for students to conveniently donate blood.

psychological: with the recent chain of tragic events, people's desperation of being able to help is at an all time high. in a situation that is so out of our control, it is easy to feel helpless as we are watching so many people struggle. at this point, people are reaching for anyway to help and donating blood is one of the easiest, most basic ways to help. with this opportunity, it can leave people more at ease knowing they did what they can do to help.

cultural: in these tragedies, hundreds of people from all different cultures have been effected. in that case, we all come from different walks of life, different cultures and different hometowns, but we have managed to come together as one and create a culture of love and service.

social: these tragedies have greatly impacted many people's social contexts. you can go to a concert and now find it necessary to have an escape/emergency reaction plan if a shooter does become active. these tragedies have caused people to live their day to day lives a little differently.

temporal: donating blood is something that is going to always be needed. the demand for it now with all the recent tragedies is higher than ever. but it is always important to keep our local blood banks full.
